Glad to hear you are off the Rat Poison, I was going to tell you to eat lots of spinach to reverse its effect quickly, but I've been overruled by The Dietitian who says to just eat normally! In any case it's one more reason to wait a few more days before hitting the road again.

Sorry to hear that Errol. Be sure to take time to heal and get the medical OK before proceeding. Is the potential infection related to your blisters?

You've gone a long way (baby). All the way to Alberta. Wow!! You're doing an amazing thing. Take care of yourself.

Nice to hear your update Errol. Having just turned 58 on the day of your departure, and unable to even imagine taking on what you have, I am in awe of your progress so far. I assume you must have seen Jay Carr's amazing film of your first day on youtube, but just in case you haven't, here is the link. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UZL5IsCmH44I Jay did an amazing job, even using his own music. I'm very proud of him. I hope you can post his video on your site. I finally figured out how to put it up on my site, 'Let's Build Businesses that Don't Kill,' where both videos of your Journey's launch day are now posted. I will soon add photos to that site as well. Here is that link. http://joanoconnor.shawwebspace.ca/

Errol entered Burnaby yesterday, after successfully overcoming a couple of bad blisters through a combination of second skin, metatarsal supports and new socks purchased at MEC!
He hopes to start an update blog shortly.

Hi Errol,

I wish you the best of weather conditions and health as you run for such a worthy cause. I am disappointed you will not be in our area. We live in New Brunswick and are a First Nation Community. We are working on a Health Canada Project with Tobacco Control as the focus.

Our statistics are very high for smoking and exposure to second-hand smoke, as well as some concerns with chewing. Our project is very interesting because our youth are messaging about the dangers of smoking, chewing and second-hand smoke, but also about the Traditional Use of Tobacco.

Tobacco for the First Nations people is very sacred and only to be used for sacred and cerermonial purposes. We are hopeful that with both messsages, we will make a positive difference in our community.

All the best, "Let only good Spirits guide you."

Bev. Smith and Raymond Milliea

Dear Errol:

I am the communications officer in the World Health Organization's Tobacco Free Initiative department in Geneva, Switzerland. Please accept my personal congratulations for your noble effort to draw attention to the global epidemic of tobacco.

As I'm sure you are aware, tobacco use killed 100 million people during the 20th century. Unless we act, tobacco use could kill another 1 billion during the 21st. By your run across Canada, you will help to avoid this foreseeable catastrophe. Thanks to you, more people will learn about the tobacco industry's attempts to create new generations of addicts. Thanks to you, money will be raised for tobacco control programmes.

As part of the United Nations system, the World Health Organization works principally with governments to solve the world's pressing public health problems. To the extent possible, it also engages with nongovernmental organizations like yours.

It's good to see an individual such as you acting compellingly for the betterment of humankind. I wish you every success in your undertaking.

Sincerely,

Timothy O'Leary
Communications Officer
World Health Organization
