What a gorgeous day you had in Montreal!!! And how wonderful to see all those beautiful young people speaking out against a lifetime of slavery to the tobacco industry. Way to go Errol! You did it.

Congratulations Errol!!!! Here is a copy of a news tip I sent to CBC yesterday in relation to their recent coverage of the story of Barb Tarbox's photo being considered for U.S. cigarette packages just after Canada backed off on its warning label improvements.

"In relation to the Barb Tarbox story, where the US is once again honoring a Canadian hero who has not been adequately honored in her own country....
Are you aware that we presently have another Canadian hero by the name of Errol Povah almost finished his 'Journey for a Tobacco Free World' - walking and running across Canada with destinations of Tobacco Industry headquarters in both Montreal and New York City? He departed from Victoria on May 31st, World No Tobacco Day, and is, I believe, in Montreal now, having crossed the country with next to no fanfare or support. His story is, in my opinion, a must cover along with the Barb Tarbox story presently being played out in the news. I attended his sparsely attended send off in Victoria, and then created a primitive little website for the purpose of posting the photos and two videos related to that event. Please check it out.
http://joanoconnor.shawwebspace.ca/

Google 'Journey for a Tobacco Free World' to see the rare posts along the way from Errol and to find his phone # etc.
Joan O'Connor RN
ps: I'm a registered nurse who helps people reduce and quit smoking. I am very interested in tobacco related history past and present - which is what has led to my interest in Errol and his journey. I met him for the first time on the day of his departure."

Hi Errol,
We are back from France and I just looked up your blog. We just visited Calgary where Anya told us about your stop there. Congratulations on making it all the way to Montreal - a fantastic accomplishment. Now I plan to read back posts in the blog. Pam and Dave

Just had to respond to Laurie:

THANK YOU, LAURIE! YOUR COMMENT PROVIDES A GREAT DEAL OF INSPIRATION TO ME. WHILE IT IS NOT OUR INTENTION TO 'FORCE' ANYBODY TO "QUIT" SMOKING (WE SIMPLY ASK THEM TO DO IT WHERE IT WILL NOT AFFECT ANYONE ELSE, PERIOD), WE ARE ALWAYS DELIGHTED WHEN PEOPLE LIKE YOURSELF (LIKE VIRTUALLY ALL SMOKERS) EXPRESS AN INTEREST IN QUITTING. AND IN THIS CASE, WELL...IT WAS ALL JUST A VERY INTERESTING SET OF CIRCUMSTANCES THAT CAUSED US TO MEET LIKE THAT.

I WISH YOU ALL THE BEST OF LUCK IN QUITTING...AND IF AT FIRST YOU DON'T SUCCEED, TRY...TRY AGAIN. SO MANY EX-SMOKERS HAVE TOLD ME ALONG THE WAY THAT QUITTING SMOKING WAS THE BEST THING THEY EVER DID. SOME HAVE SAID IT WAS THE HARDEST THING THEY EVER DID TOO...BUT NOBODY HAS EVER REGRETTED QUITTING SMOKING!!!

THANKS AGAIN, LAURIE! GREAT TO MEET YOU...AND BEST OF LUCK!

I just wanted to thank you for your inspiration when I stopped you on the road. I woke up that morning wanting to quit but not realy paying attention had my coffee and morning smokes as usual but i was on my way to ThunderBay when i saw you.By this point I hadn't had a smoke since i got in the truck, I wanted to stop but of coarse i was a bit affraid,i wondered what you were up to i knew you weren't hitch hiking cause you were on the wrong side of the road, i just had to stop i thought maybe you needed help or ride or something ,that maybe there was something i was to help you with. I was so surprised when you said no to the ride. When i stopped to talk to you I just new then It was my time to quit. I know you won't becoming into Manitouwadge as we are 54 km off the highway 1/2hr up the road from Marathon but Thank you God bless and have a great safe walk.
